Privacy policy
Draft under review. This policy takes effect when public sign-up opens.

This policy explains what Helm Accounting ("Helm", "we") collects when you use helmaccounting.com and the books we host for you, and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, company or firm name, your Helm address, and the time you accepted our terms.
- Your books: the accounting records, documents, customers, vendors and users you add or import.
- Bank data: if you connect a bank, account names, masks, balances and transactions that Plaid sends us. We never see or store your bank sign-in details.
- Payment details: card or bank details you enter are collected and stored by Stripe. We keep only the card brand, last four digits and billing status.
- Technical records: sign-in times, IP addresses, browser type and security logs, used to keep accounts secure.
How we use it
- To run the service: host your books, sync bank feeds, send sign-in codes and account email, and bill your subscription.
- To keep accounts and the service secure and to investigate misuse.
- To answer your questions and tell you about changes to the service.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use your books' contents for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only service providers that help us run Helm, under contracts that limit their use to that purpose: DigitalOcean (hosting in the United States), Microsoft (account email), Plaid (bank connections) and Stripe (payments). We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account is open, then 90 days after cancellation so you can restore or export it, unless the law requires longer. Backups roll off on their own schedule after that.
Security
Each subscriber's books are kept in a separate database. Connections are encrypted, every account uses two-factor sign-in, and backups run daily.
Your choices
You can view, correct and export your information from your account, and ask us to delete your account. Firm clients should contact their firm first, since the firm manages that company's books.
