Terms of service
Draft under review. These terms take effect when public sign-up opens.
Last updated October 28, 2026
These terms govern your use of Helm Accounting ("Helm", "we", "us"), a hosted accounting service available at helmaccounting.com and its subdomains. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them on behalf of yourself and the business or firm you represent ("you").
The service
Helm provides software for keeping a company's books: a general ledger, bank feeds, reconciliation, invoicing, reports, a month-end close workflow and a CFO dashboard. Helm is software. We don't prepare your tax returns or financial statements, give legal, tax or investment advice, or audit or review your books. You are responsible for the entries you post and for how you use the reports.
Your account
- You must give accurate sign-up information and keep it current.
- You are responsible for everyone you invite and for keeping sign-in details secure. Every account uses two-factor sign-in.
- An accounting firm that adds a client company confirms it is authorized by that client to keep its books in Helm and to invite the client's users.
Free trial, billing and cancellation
- New accounts get a 30-day free trial. No payment method is needed to start one.
- After the trial, the price is $20 per company per month, billed monthly in advance in US dollars, until you cancel. We'll give at least 30 days' notice of any price change.
- If no payment method is on file when the trial ends, or a payment fails and isn't fixed, your books become read-only. You can still sign in, view and export them.
- You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing month; we don't give refunds for partial months.
Your data
- Your books and documents belong to you. You give us permission to host, process, back up and display them only to provide the service to you.
- You can export your reports and data while your account is active or read-only.
- After an account is cancelled we keep its data for 90 days so it can be restored or exported, then delete it, except where the law requires us to keep it longer.
- Our privacy policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
Third-party services
Bank feeds are provided through Plaid and card payments through Stripe. When you connect a bank or enter a card you also agree to those providers' terms. We aren't responsible for their availability or for data they supply that is late or wrong.
Acceptable use
Don't use Helm to break the law, to store data you have no right to, to probe or disrupt the service, to access another subscriber's data, or to resell the service without our written permission.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Helm available and to protect your data with daily backups, but the service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We may improve or change features; if a change materially reduces what you're paying for, you may cancel.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits or data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other subscribers at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to fix it.
Changes to these terms
We'll post changes here and email account owners at least 30 days before a material change takes effect.
